Three Injured in Fort Washington Multi-Car Crash

On Wednesday, three people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Fort Washington. Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department said the crash involved three vehicles and occurred on Route 210 and Swann Creek Road. Three people were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No further details were released and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Multi-vehicle accidents are especially dangerous due to the compounded effects of multiple impacts from different directions as additional vehicles become involved. Unlike single-vehicle collisions, these pileups can subject occupants to successive hits from the front, rear, and side, significantly increasing the severity of injuries.

A 2015 study found that the likelihood of severe injury escalates with each additional impact – from 0.26% in single-impact crashes to over 2% in crashes involving four or more impacts. This heightened danger is due to the limitations of safety features such as airbags and seatbelts, which are designed primarily for single-impact scenarios.
