Duane O. King

Attorney

Biography

When you think about a personal injury lawyer, what images come to mind? For many people, it is the negative stereotype of an attorney chasing an ambulance, or a smiling lawyer on a TV commercial who is urging you to get the most you can out of an accident that caused an injury. And while those conventional portrayals of personal injury lawyers may be amusing, they are not representative of the kind of service that we provide at the Law Offices of Duane O. King, P.C.

What I’ve learned practicing law for more than 15 years is that people who are injured and people who suffered a loss just want to be made whole again. And while a lawyer can’t take away a family’s grief after an accident, a lawyer can help plaintiffs get justice, which can provide peace of mind during a difficult time.

My Background

I come from Kinston, North Carolina, which is the definition of a small town. From the time I was a kid, I knew I wanted to be a lawyer because I would ask so many questions that my grandmother would tell me I sounded like a lawyer from Philly.

After I graduated high school, I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated with a degree in political science in 1998. I was accepted to the Howard University School of Law in August 1999 and passed the bar exam in 2003. At that time, I had the fortune of working with Brian K. McDaniel, an outstanding criminal defense attorney who owns his own law firm.

This is when I began working with cases involving family law, landlord/tenant disputes, criminal law, and personal injury. I quickly found that personal injury was the practice area that best fit my skills and interest. Under the guidance of Mr. McDaniel, I became proficient at handling all types of personal injury claims and winning settlements for our clients.

In 2007, after four years of gratifying work with Mr. McDaniel, I decided that I had gained the necessary experience and expertise to open my own personal injury firm. Since then, I have had the good fortune of being able to settle hundreds of claims through mediation, arbitration, bench trials, and jury trials.

My success is due to hard work, tenacity, unwavering commitment, and what I call my southern roots. My family raised me to be honest, kind and generous with my time. They also gave me that unique southern sense of hospitality and warmth, and I think my clients feel a genuine sense of comfort and trust when they first meet me. My first goal is to provide reassurance to my clients because many of them are facing difficult circumstances that include physical injury, permanent disability, and even the loss of a loved one.

I can say without reservation that the most gratifying aspect of the work I do is the appreciation my clients express when we resolve a case. For many of them, it’s not just that a settlement check can help them with their financial needs, but it’s also about the fact that we obtained justice from whoever caused them injury and loss.

I am admitted to practice law in Washington D.C., Maryland, New York, Virginia, and the U.S. District Court for Maryland. I am a member of the National Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the American Association for Justice, which was formerly known as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

If you have been injured or suffered a loss due to an accident or some other type of event, the Law Offices of Duane O. King is committed to providing you with outstanding service.
