Taxi Driver Killed, Others Seriously Wounded in Crash with Metrobus
On Monday, a speeding taxi driver slammed into a stopped minivan on Richmond Highway, shoving it into a Metrobus and killing himself and seriously wounding three others. Two occupants in the minivan suffered life-threatening injuries, according to Fairfax County Police.
The taxi driver, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in the taxi at the time of the crash. All three adults in the minivan were transported to an area hospital. The third occupant suffered non-life-threatening injuries. No injuries were reported on the bus, which carried four passengers and the driver.
Northbound Richmond Highway was closed between Beacon Hill Road and North Kings Highway. An investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing.
Speeding significantly increases the risk and severity of multi-vehicle crashes, especially when traffic is stopped or slowing on busy roads such as Richmond Highway. At higher speeds, drivers have less time to react, and the force of impact can push vehicles into others, creating deadly chain-reaction collisions. These crashes often leave occupants with life-threatening injuries and require extensive emergency response.
