Pedestrian Killed in Southeast D.C. Hit and Run

On Monday, a man was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Southeast Washington, D.C. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said the crash occurred on the 900 block of Southern Avenue at the Maryland and Washington, D.C. state line.

The victim died at the scene, and police are working to locate the driver, who fled the area immediately after the crash. Police are also investigating a second accident that occurred in the area and closed the intersection of Southern Avenue and Wheeler Road as investigators continued to work both scenes.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call 202-727-9099 or text MPD at 50411.

In the District, all drivers are legally required to stop after a crash, exchange contact and insurance information, and render aid to anyone injured. Failing to do so is considered a hit-and-run offense. A fatal hit-and-run can result in felony charges, substantial fines, long-term loss of driving privileges, and years of imprisonment.
