Multiple Injured in Westminster Pike Tractor-Trailer Crash
Several people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash involving an ambulance and a tractor-trailer that closed all lanes on I-795 at Westminster Pike in Reisterstown on Saturday. According to Baltimore County Police, a Carroll County ambulance actively responding to a call in Baltimore County was struck broadside at the intersection by a speeding tractor-trailer, both crashing into other vehicles as well.
Police said seven people were injured, including two Carroll County firefighter paramedic/EMT’s in the ambulance, who were life-flighted to Sinai Hospital. Both are now listed in stable condition. Others were treated at the scene and transported to other area hospitals.
The tractor-trailer was transporting fuel, but authorities said the tank did not appear to be damaged and no leaks had been detected.
A local business owner captured video footage of the violent crash, stating that it was “one of the most violent crashes he has recorded.” He said the intersection, where three highways converge, can be especially dangerous. According to state crash data, seven crashes at that intersection have been reported so far this year, with five resulting in injury.
Maryland State Police and the Baltimore County Crash Team also responded to the scene and are assisting with the investigation. The Baltimore County Police Department is leading the investigation into the crash which is ongoing.
