Crash Alert: Train derails at Silver Springs Metro Station
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – According to WUSA9, a metro train has derailed at the Silver Springs Metro Station.
The derailment took place on Colesville Road around 11:30 a.m. The train slipped off the tracks, briefly trapping a passenger and the conductor before emergency crews removed them.
No serious injuries were reported due to the derailment and most passengers were able to self evacuate. Investigators believe the derailed train probably had a switching gear in front of it.
Service between Takoma and Wheaton is currently suspended. Metro delays are to be expected and it is unclear how long it will take to clear the tracks.
